Morgan Chu Lands Daily Journal Top 100 Recognition
Morgan Chu was recognized on the Daily Journal’s 2020 list of the Top 100 attorneys in California. The publication noted that Morgan led the Irell team that scored a $752 million jury verdict for Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research and Juno Therapeutics last year in a patent case against Kite Pharma involving cancer immunotherapy known as CAR T-cell therapy. The $752 million award was the largest patent jury verdict in the U.S. last year. The jury found Kite’s infringement was willful, and the judge enhanced the award by 50 percent to $1.2 billion in April based on a patent law provision that allows a court increase damages to punish infringers for egregious conduct.
The Daily Journal also noted that Morgan recently captured another victory in a series of trademark wins for Skechers, convincing an International Trade Commission judge that Skechers didn’t infringe the trade dress of Converse’s Chuck Taylor shoes.
