Irell & Manella LLP today announced the appointment by Governor Brown of partners Laura A. Seigle and Melissa R. McCormick to judgeships in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and Orange County Superior Court, respectively.

Seigle has been a partner in the Los Angeles office of Irell and Manella LLP since 2001 and was an associate from 1994 to 2000. Her practice is focused on intellectual property and entertainment litigation. Before joining the firm, Seigle served as a law clerk for the Honorable Diarmuid O’Scannlain at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She earned her J.D. from Yale Law School and B.A. from Harvard University. Seigle fills the vacancy created by the conversion last year of a court commissioner position.

McCormick has been a partner in the Newport Beach office Irell and Manella LLP since 2004 and was an associate from 1997 to 2003. Her practice encompasses a wide range of complex business disputes. Prior to joining the firm, McCormick served as a law clerk for the Honorable Emilio M. Garza at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and for the Honorable Judith N. Keep at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. She earned her J.D. from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law and B.A. from Stanford University. McCormick fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Marjorie L. Carter.

McCormick and Seigle follow in the footsteps of many other Irell lawyers who have gone on to become judges.
