Scott D. Baskin, a partner with Irell & Manella LLP, is a resident of the firm’s Newport Beach office. He has concentrated his practice on intellectual property, technology, and real estate disputes. Mr. Baskin has been named to the Southern California "Super Lawyers" list by Los Angeles Magazine in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Mr. Baskin was also an assistant instructor at Yale Law School and a law clerk to the Hon. Herbert Y.C. Choy, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Representative Matters
Among Mr. Baskin's clients and matters are the following:
- Mr. Baskin represented Western Digital Corporation in defense of a $200 million computer hardware and software dispute, alleging fraud, breach of contract, and other misconduct. After trial on the matter, the jury returned a complete defense verdict. The National Law Journal included this case in its annual report on the 15 most outstanding defense verdicts in the United States.
- Mr. Baskin represented Newport Corporation as lead defense counsel in a trademark case. After trial, the jury returned a complete defense verdict. Mr. Baskin also successfully argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which affirmed the defense judgment.
- Mr. Baskin also represented a plaintiff in prosecuting contract and business tort claims, which resulted in a judgment for plaintiff of more than $55 million.
