Lucas Oxenford represents clients in a range of intellectual property and complex business disputes, including patent, trademark, trade secret, and antitrust matters.
While earning his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, he was a comments editor for the Chicago Journal of International Law and served as president of the Intellectual Property Law Society.
Lucas graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Bioengineering and minors in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry. There, he received a Mary Gates Research Scholarship for his work in the UW Heart and Muscle Mechanics Laboratory, studying the effects of gene mutations on muscle structure and function. He also worked at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he operated a particle accelerator to test the composition and strength of thin films.

Intel Corp. et al. v. Fortress Investment Group LLC et al. (N.D. Cal./9th Cir.). Represented Fortress Investment Group, Fortress Credit Company, and VLSI Technology in litigation against Intel and Apple, which alleged Fortress and VLSI engaged in an anti-competitive patent aggregation scheme in violation of antitrust and unfair competition laws. The highly-publicized case was dismissed on the pleadings, and the team was honored with a Daily Journal 2022 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award for the defense victory. The dismissal was subsequently affirmed on appeal by the Ninth Circuit.
- Farmers Edge Inc. et al. v. AGI SureTrack, LLC (PTAB/D. NE.). Lead counsel of record for AGI SureTrack (formerly known as Farmobile) in defending against five petitions for inter partes review brought by Farmers Edge, challenging AGI SureTrack’s patents involving precision agriculture and digital agronomy before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. The Board denied institution of all five petitions on the merits. Also representing AGI SureTrack in the parallel district court litigation, asserting claims of patent infringement against Farmers Edge involving the same and related patents.
- Alector, Inc. v. Asa Abeliovich, M.D., Ph.D. (JAMS arbitration). Represented prominent neuroscientist and drug developer Asa Abeliovich, the founder and CEO of Prevail Therapeutics, a company developing gene therapies for patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, in a trade secret arbitration proceeding. The case involved allegations that Prevail’s work was based on Alector’s alleged trade secrets, for which Alector sought relief in the form of substantial monetary damages as well as ownership rights to Prevail’s intellectual property estate. After a two-week arbitration hearing, the arbitrator rejected all of the principal claims against Dr. Abeliovich, including all claims alleging misappropriation or misuse of trade secrets and confidential information.

Nike Inc. v. Skechers U.S.A., Inc. (C.D. Cal.). Represented Skechers in multiple design patent and utility patent infringement lawsuits against Nike involving athletic shoes.

RetailMeNot, Inc. v. Honey Science LLC (D. DE.). Represented Honey, after its $4 billion acquisition by PayPal, in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by RetailMeNot. The case was centered on Honey’s inventive browser extension technology, which automatically finds and applies coupons while shopping online, and also included counterclaims of infringement against RetailMeNot.

Norbit U.S., Ltd. et al v. R2Sonic, LLC (D. OR.). Represented R2Sonic in a declaratory judgment action brought by Norbit US and Seahorse Geomatics involving R2Sonic’s patented multibeam sonar technology. The case was dismissed on the pleadings.
